Foster Heroes Wanted
Become part of our foster family!
At Henry County Humane Society – Geneseo, our fosters are true lifesavers. Because we’re a small shelter funded by donation with big dreams and even bigger hearts, we rely deeply on the amazing people who open their homes to animals who need a little extra care.
When you foster, you’re not just giving an animal a temporary place to stay. You’re giving them their best chance to grow, heal, and thrive.
Many of the animals who need fosters are babies too young for the shelter, pets recovering from illness or surgery, or animals who simply can’t handle the stress of a busy environment. These animals flourish in calm, loving homes where they can rest, learn, and feel safe. That’s where you come in.
Fostering with us means becoming part of our shelter family—a group that works hard, laughs loudly, supports each other endlessly, and shows up for the animals no matter what. If you have a soft spot for underdogs (or under-cats!), a warm home, and a big heart, you might be the hero they’re waiting for.
Foster Requirements
To keep both your animals and our animals safe, we ask that all fosters:
- Are 18 years or older
- Have all personal pets up to date on vaccinations
- Can provide a separate space for foster animals (to prevent the spread of internal parasites or illness)
- Are willing to administer medications as directed
- Can transport foster animals to vet appointments at our partnered clinics in Geneseo or Atkinson
- Understand that fostering takes hard work, patience, consistency, and lots of love
